1200 Calorie Diet

Don't be shocked if you gain weight from the 1200 calorie diet in the long term.

The first step to successful weight loss is to make the decision that you want to lose weight. Since you’re here and reading this, that means you’ve already made this first step. That’s great! The next step is to figure out the best way for you to lose weight.

If you’ve looked at the magazines at the grocery store or googled “lose weight” on the Internet, you know how confusing and overwhelming it can be to find a healthy way to lose weight. There are so many bad diet information out there that can be dangerous to your health. The 1200 Calorie Diet is one of these diets that just don’t work.

What is the 1200 Calorie Diet?

Many weight loss “experts” will tell you that in order to lose weight, you’ll have to eat less. To be more specific, they’ll say that you should eat only 1200 calories per day if you’re a woman.

Why 1200 calories? The American College for Sports Medicine found that eating 1200 calories per day would prevent the body from going into starvation mode. For men, the number of calories goes up to 1800 calories a day.

However, your body is not the same as everybody’s, so you might need less or more than 1200 calories per day to lose weight without starving yourself. The 1200 number is a general estimate. This is already a bad sign – you’re supposed to limit your calories according to a general estimate? This puts your body at risk for entering the starvation mode.

Also, if you engage in exercise, that means that your body will burn even more calories. What happens to that 1200 calories? Will you need to eat more? How much more calories should you eat? So many questions, so little answers.

How hard is it to do the 1200 Calorie Diet?

Limiting your calorie count to only 1200 per day is very difficult to do for a long time. Sure, you’ll probably find some success in the beginning when you restrict your calorie intake so drastically. But it is really tough to continue to restrict what you eat every single day for a long time.

The problem with the 1200 Calorie Diet is that the longer you remain on the diet, the slower your metabolism gets. Soon enough, you’ll hit a roadblock with your weight loss and then you will need to eat even less to see any results.

Then your energy will disappear. You’ll feel more tired, more sluggish, and your muscles will shrink. It’ll become harder and harder to find the energy to exercise. With no exercise, your metabolism slows down even more.

Many people quit their strict 1200-calorie diets before they reach their weight goal. Then what happens? They gain all of their weight back… plus some more. And since they lost a lot of muscle mass, they’re appear to look fatter than when they started.

This leads to a lifetime of weight problems. All thanks to the 1200 calorie diet. This can lead to yo-yo dieting, which means that you continually lose and gain back your weight. Yo-yo dieting will lead to slower metabolism and this only makes it harder for you to lose the weight again.

You don’t want to suffer through this ugly cycle of weight loss and gain. The 1200 calorie diet does not work. It demands too much of your body and can be dangerous to your health.

Mentally, it’s not a good way to live. Imagine trying to focus at work and continually being distracted by your growling stomach. And then you have no energy to meet your deadlines. The combination of hunger, tiredness, and self-denial is not healthy, nor will it help you reach your weight loss goals.

What others are saying about the 1200 Calorie Diet

Read the following testimonials to see how the 1200 Calorie Diet has failed so many people.

“Starting the 1200 calorie diet was one of the worse decisions that I made. Believe it or not, but after starting the diet, I eat more unhealthier than I used to. I tried estimating the calories for my foods during the first 2 weeks, but when I weighed myself, the weight stayed the same. Trust me guys, nothing is worse than trying so hard only finding that my weight did not budge at all. Nowadays, I only eat canned foods or other foods that have a nutritional label only. My diet consists of canned tuna, bread, and tv dinners. This is because I know the exact calorie count. I tried having just steak and other foods and try to estimate the calories…but I found out the hard way that you really do need to make an effort to count the calories. It’s kinda depressing, I miss eating out.”

“In February 2007, I weighted 247 pounds. I went on a liquid diet – 900 calories a day – because my blood pressure was so high. After dropping 55 pounds, I switched to a 1,200-calorie Weight Watchers plan. In three and a half months, I regained 36 pounds. Why can’t I lose weight on 1,200 calories a day?”

“I went on a supervised 1,200 calorie diet a little while ago. I had no work out regimen prior to the program. After six weeks of lifting weights three times a week and 20 minutes of light cardio every day, I lost only four pounds. Shortly thereafter it spun out of control, I restricted for too long, then I couldn’t control myself. My metabolism is still recovering from the tailspin. It was a terrible year.”

“I wanted to lose 20 pounds, so I went on a 1,200 calorie diet. I lost weight during my first few weeks, but I was hungry all day. Soon enough, I was worried when my stomach wasn’t growling and relieved when it did. Then I just couldn’t keep up with it and started eating normally again. I gained all of my weight back and now I’m overweight by 30 pounds. I’m right back where I started, with an extra 10 pounds!”

You can see how this diet really doesn’t work for anyone. You might lose weight at first with the 1200 Calorie Diet, but the weight loss doesn’t last and you end up with even more weight than before. You’ll put your body in starvation mode and actually harm your body in the process by slowing down your metabolism so much that you stop losing weight.

How 1200-calorie meal plans set you up for failure

The 1200 Calorie Diet demands that you keep track of every calorie that you put in your mouth. That means checking the calorie count of everything you eat and adding them up. Since this is so much work, many “experts” will recommend you to follow a 1200-calorie meal plan.

But these meal plans can be very misleading. Let’s look at a sample 1200-calorie meal plan.

Breakfast: One serving of whole-grain cereal with 1/2 cup blueberries and 8 oz. of skim milk.

Snack: Celery sticks with 1 tbsp. peanut butter.

Lunch: 4 oz. roasted tilapia with 1/2 cup of brown rice and 1 cup steamed broccoli.

Snack: 8 oz. non-fat yogurt and 1/2 of a banana.

Dinner: 3 oz. of rotisserie chicken breast with the skin removed, with a salad of lettuce, baby carrots, chopped bell pepper, light Italian dressing, and whole wheat crackers.

Dessert: 4 oz. non-fat, plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup sliced strawberries, and 1 tsp. of honey.

Looks simple enough? Well, let’s examine the breakfast recommendation. One serving of whole-grain cereal? How many different kinds of whole-grain cereal can you find at your local grocery store? Look at the calorie count of each cereal – they can vary widely, from 150 calories to over 300 calories. And don’t get me started on the milk. A cup of skim milk has different calories depending on the brand you’re buying and where you live.

And that’s just for the first meal on this 1200-calorie meal plan. Even if you follow this meal plan to the letter, you might still overeat and go over 1200 calories. And then you won’t lose weight and you’ll wonder why. You’ll become frustrated and your weight loss journey will come to a dead end.

Some dieters end up eating the exact same thing every single day so they can be sure to hit the 1200-calorie mark. Could you really do this? Eat the same thing over and over again, everyday, for a long time? What happens when you hit your weight loss goals? You’ll change up your food and then you’ll gain back the weight you worked so hard to lose.

Why you should stay away from the 1200 Calorie Diet

Simply put, the 1200 Calorie Diet does not work for long-term, long-lasting weight loss.

If you go on this diet, you’ll be miserable, hungry, and tired. You might lose some weight at first, but most of it will be from muscle loss. Your metabolism will slow down and then you’ll hit a plateau with your weight loss. You’ll feel frustrated. You might try counting all of your calories to figure out where you went wrong. Then you’re spending a lot of time counting calories and feeling hungry. After a while living like this, you’ll probably give up and go back to your old eating habits and gain all of your weight back.

Don’t do it. It isn’t worth it.

If weight loss was as simple as eating a magic number of calories per day, we all would be thin. The 1200 Calorie Diet does not work in the long run.

What I recommend instead of the 1200 Calorie Diet

Instead of the 1200 Calorie Diet, I recommend the Diet Solution Program. The Diet Solution is a new program that gives you a detailed meal plan that is based on your unique body type. You’ll get over 20 full days of meals and snacks, with recipes and specific food recommendations. The Diet Solution is a healthy way to lose weight and will provide you with the tools you need for a lifetime solution to your weight struggles.

The Diet Solution: A Better Alternative to the 1200 Calorie Diet

If you’ve read my article on the 1200 Calorie Diet, you know that the diet is ineffective for long-term weight loss. But you still want to lose weight. What’s your next step? Instead of restricting yourself on the 1200 Calorie Diet and counting calories all day, I strongly recommend you to try The Diet Solution.

What is The Diet Solution?

Isabel De Los Rios, a certified nutritionist, created The Diet Solution Program.

Who is Isabel De Los Rios?

Isabel De Los Rios

The author of The Diet Solution, Isabel De Los Rios has a strong background in nutrition and fitness. She has a certification in nutrition and is the owner of a fitness and nutrition center in New Jersey, called New Body. After studying at Rutgers University and completing a degree in exercise physiology, De Los Rios became an accredited Holistic Nutrition Coach and received her certification from the Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology institute in San Diego.

De Los Rios developed The Diet Solution based on her experience and education regarding weight loss, nutrition, and fitness. She has seen what truly works and what doesn’t and have put together an effective diet program that is healthy, holistic, and beneficial for the long term.

How does The Diet Solution work?

The Diet Solution is based on the scientific research of metabolic typing principle, which determines that people have different metabolisms depending on their body types. Your metabolism will work differently than others, so if you eat according to your metabolism levels, you will end up losing weight.

Before you begin the diet, you’ll be asked to answer several questions in order to determine your body type. There are three different body types represented in the program. After the questionnaire, you will receive a meal plan that’s customized to your nutrition needs.

You might get a meal plan that’s heavily based in carbohydrates, a plan that’s full of proteins, or a plan that has a balanced combination of both. Then you can start following the diet immediately.

Healthy and Nutritious

The Diet Solution puts a strong emphasis on healthy, nutritious food instead of processed and prepackaged food. On this diet, you’ll be eating nuts, fruits, raw vegetables, lean meat, fish, poultry, and organic eggs. You’ll also be introduced to highly beneficial additions to your diet, including coconut oil and flaxseed.

The meal plans will help you reduce your consumption of bad fats, hydrogenated fats, and excessive sugar intake. You won’t find sugary cereals, cakes, or cookies in your meal plans. But you won’t miss them – you’ll be replacing them with delicious and nutritious food. You’ll also be able to drink red wine with your meals for the heart healthy benefits.

Supplements play a small part in this diet. Instead of getting the nutrients that your body needs through pills and capsules, the author strongly recommends you to eat your nutrients in real food that will fill you up and keep your body strong.

 Rebuild Your Relationship with Food

The Diet Solution recognizes that many people struggle with their weight because of their unhealthy relationship with food. Instead of giving you a quick and temporary fix to your weight struggles, The Diet Solution actually helps you to re-examine your thoughts and feelings towards foods. You’ll evaluate how you eat and the reasons why you eat the way you do.

The Diet Solution will require you to make lifestyle changes, which results in weight loss that lasts for a lifetime. The diet will not restrict your food choices, but it will give you a different approach to eating that’s better for both your weight scale and your health.

Long-term Results, Not Quick Fixes

You should not expect to lose 10 pounds in 10 days with this diet. It’s not a quick fix, which is a good thing because diets that promise a quick weight loss are not long-term solutions. You will end up gaining back all the weight you’ve lost on these diets.

With The Diet Solution, you’ll probably lose 10 to 15 pounds in six weeks. This number really depends on your body type and how much weight you have to lose. You can be confident that you will not gain back the pounds you lose on this diet, because you’re making a lifestyle change.

End the cycle of yo-yo dieting and fad dieting and become healthier, thinner, and stronger with The Diet Solution.

A Balanced Exercise Program

Although The Diet Solution is mainly focused on nutrition, it also includes three exercise books that you can use to boost your weight loss. These books include clear instructions along with photos of exercises for you to follow. These exercise plans include both cardiovascular and weight training exercises.

Should I try The Diet Solution?

If you’re looking to solve your weight problems once and for all and you’re willing to make lifestyle changes, The Diet Solution will help you achieve your goals. You will be able to follow meal plans that are customized to your body type and metabolism needs. You’ll also make changes to how you think about food, which will help you accomplish life-time weigh loss and maintenance.

The diet is based on science, but you won’t get bored reading the e-book. It presents all the nutrition and scientific information that you need to know in a clear, engaging way. You’ll actually enjoy learning about how your body type processes food and how you can best meet your body’s needs.

Not only will you lose weight with The Diet Solution, but you’ll also experienced health benefits. The lifestyles changes that you make will result in a better heart, better hair, better skin, and less health bills.

However, if you’re a vegetarian, The Diet Solution might not be the answer for you, since it includes a lot of meat, chicken, and poultry in its meal plans.

How soon can I start The Diet Solution?

You can start The Diet Solution immediately after you make your purchase. It is an e-book, so you can start reading it as soon as you buy it and start following the meal plans  after you answer the questions abut your body type.

Thanks! I was beginning to feel insane for not meeting the “recommended” calorie intake on a site I am using, despite paying more attention to the fruits/veggies/serving sizes I am eating. The site does make me think about what I’m eating, but I refuse to revolve my life around counting!
